Clan Battles
Clan battles are the ultimate test of teamwork and strategy in World of Warships. Here is how Drowned Gods approaches competitive play on the EU server.
What Are Clan Battles?
Clan battles are World of Warships' premier competitive mode, where organized teams of clan members face off against other clans in tactical 7v7 or 8v8 battles. Unlike random battles, clan battles require coordinated team composition, strategy, and communication to succeed.
Seasons run throughout the year, each with unique rules regarding allowed tiers, ship classes, and map pools. Performance in clan battles earns your clan league rating — from Squall up through Typhoon, Hurricane, and beyond — along with valuable rewards like steel, special flags, and exclusive camos.
For Drowned Gods, clan battles represent the pinnacle of what makes World of Warships great: teamwork, strategy, and the thrill of coordinated naval warfare.

How We Prepare
Success in clan battles does not come from individual skill alone — it requires systematic preparation and coordination. Here is our approach:
1. Meta Analysis
Before each season, we study the current game meta, including which ships are strongest in the competitive environment, what compositions other top clans are running, and how recent balance changes affect the viable strategies. We monitor community resources, watch competitive streams, and share insights within the clan.
2. Composition Building
Based on our meta analysis, we develop primary and backup team compositions. We consider ship synergies, map control capabilities, and our members' individual strengths. Every composition is designed with a clear win condition — whether that is area denial, aggressive push, crossfire positioning, or kiting strategies.
3. Training Sessions
We run dedicated training sessions where we practice our compositions, drill positioning on specific maps, and work on communication protocols. New clan battle participants receive special coaching to get them up to speed on callouts, focus fire discipline, and map-specific strategies.
4. During the Season
During an active season, we schedule regular battle sessions (typically 3-4 evenings per week during prime time). Our shot-callers lead the team with clear, concise communication. We track our results, note patterns in our wins and losses, and adjust our approach accordingly.
5. After-Action Review
After each session, we discuss key battles — what went right, what went wrong, and what we can improve. For critical matches, we review replays together to identify positioning errors, missed opportunities, and tactical improvements.
Tips for Clan Battle Success
Communication is King
Clear, concise callouts win battles. Call targets, report enemy positions, and acknowledge commands. Avoid cluttering comms with unnecessary chatter during engagements.
Know Your Maps
Learn the key positions, island cover, and cap placement on every competitive map. Understanding sightlines and choke points gives you a massive advantage.
Positioning Over Damage
Being in the right place at the right time matters more than raw damage numbers. Good positioning creates crossfires and denies the enemy favorable angles.
Optimize Your Builds
Clan battle builds differ from random battle builds. Prioritize survivability, concealment, and utility over raw damage. Consult with experienced members for optimal setups.
Focus Fire Discipline
Concentrated fire on a single target eliminates threats faster than spreading damage. Follow the shot-caller's target calls and switch targets together as a team.
Stay Calm Under Pressure
Competitive matches can be intense. Keep a level head, stick to the plan, and trust your teammates. Panicking leads to mistakes; composure leads to victory.
Ship Classes in Clan Battles
Each ship class plays a distinct role in clan battles. Understanding these roles is essential for effective teamwork:
- Destroyers (DD) — Scouts and cap contesters. DDs provide vision, contest capture points, and threaten with torpedoes. Their concealment makes them invaluable for information warfare.
- Cruisers (CA/CL) — The backbone of most compositions. Cruisers provide sustained damage, radar, hydro, and anti-aircraft support. They excel at holding positions behind islands and creating crossfires.
- Battleships (BB) — Heavy hitters and tanks. Battleships absorb damage, punish broadside mistakes, and control space through threat of alpha damage. Proper angling and positioning are critical.
- Aircraft Carriers (CV) — When allowed in the format, CVs provide unmatched scouting, harassment, and area denial. They require careful coordination with the team to maximize their impact.
- Submarines (SS) — When permitted, submarines add a stealth element that forces the enemy to play more cautiously and dedicate resources to anti-submarine warfare.
